Where was I?! Oh yes, we were steaming along nicely through my top 10 recommendations of community events for you to enjoy over the Summer. Here’s numbers 5 – 10. Enjoy, and let me know if I’ve missed any out!

Waterloo Food Month – established as a well known community driven event, this really is such a feel good experience to get involved in this summer! Take cocktail making classes, go coffee tasting, try out Cuban food and attend fun talks or get involved in food quizzes. The best part is it’s all sponsored by local businesses! Going strong until 27th July it’s somewhere easy to find and fun to get involved in, whether after work with friends or a leisurely afternoon on a sunny weekend.

Broadway Market – this Hackney market is a magnet for everything trendy and is on every Saturday from 9am to 5pm. It’s filled with students and creatives and is the perfect place to find locally made produce and unique handmade gifts, as well as antiques and second hand clothes. And if you thought that couldn’t sound better, it’s also a haven for street food stalls so you’ll have a hard time staying hungry! Make sure you arrive early to avoid the inevitable crowds.

Portobello Road Market – as the world’s largest antiques market this Notting Hill highlight is actually made up of 5 mini markets sitting side by side. You can take a wander and buy some fresh fruit, vintage clothes, household essentials, second hand goods, but the main highlight is obviously all the glorious antiques up for grabs. You can hunt for a fabulous futon and afterwards discover a fantastic falafel place – it’s a real treat for the senses!

Alfies Antique Market – housed in a very cool art deco building and open from 10am-6pm Tuesday to Sunday is this multi floored antique collectors dream. Browse jewellery, decorative items, memorabilia, furniture and art work to name just a few!. This market has been attracting enthusiastic buyers and collectors for more than 40 years. But what about when you’re finished? Fear not, there’s a rooftop cafe so you can soak up some sunshine after an exhausting retail therapy session!

Lambeth Country Show – London’s biggest and best free family festival makes for a really great day out for the whole family! Taking place on the 15th & 16th of July, you can really make a weekend of it as there’s 10 unique zones with all the activities under the sun to keep you and the family entertained.  There’s active areas for sport and dancing, somewhere to discover science exhibits and even a farm zone with animals! As for food options, there’s too many to really count, but we reckon there’s at least 35 cuisines from 22 different nations, so you’ll be spoilt for choice!

So, there we have it. No excuse not to get out there and get exploring your London! Awaken those senses, unlock your creativity and most importantly, discover the community on your doorstep.
