Starting out on the career ladder can be a daunting and scary endeavour. Believe me; I know because I recently experienced this myself!
Graduates, hoping to start their new careers and lives post school and university, are increasingly inundated with stress which in turn impacts their mental well-being. This is a massive issue, which innovative rental startup Ems and graduate recruiters, Graduate Fasttrack have teamed up together to tackle head on.
Okay, so let’s picture the classic graduate scenario:
You get a 2:1 at university, do a summer internship and a million other extra bits, all elegantly embellished on your CV, to get yourself to this position.
After working with graduate recruiters, connecting you to and helping you interview with the ‘real jobs’ that you’ve been after (working at the chicken shop was just a summer job, even though you’ll miss the free peri peri), you start to really picture yourself living that life.
But, just as things start to get exciting, that black cloud of niggling doubt and stress creeps in…
Now what? So you got the job, or think you’re pretty certain to, but you live in Wiltshire with your parents, and the 2.5 hour commute isn’t gonna cut it…
You want the job and they want you, but now there’s seemingly a massive roadblock. You need to find somewhere to live (and fast), and THEN go through that painful rental process, which you also have no idea how to go about.
You have zero clue where to start looking for an affordable place on your grad salary, let alone how to go about it- the contract negotiation, setting up bills, the list goes on and on…
Not to mention, you have very little time to commit to this mountain of a task!
The stress which graduates’ face is a real issue. It has a massive impact on their work in new careers and well-being in general. The mental well-being of grads’, is an area which Ems and Graduate Fasttrack fully understand and want to improve.
Reports published by mental health charity, Student Minds, show that 11.7 million days are lost to work related stress and poor mental well-being. Plus, stress accounts for 45% of all working days lost.
These numbers are staggering, but are also understandable. Starting a new, high powered graduate career is a massive step in your life, far cry from waking up at 10 am at university. This adjustment is made all the more difficult when you factor in the whole finding and sorting a place to live issue.
It’s clear that finding and starting your new graduate job and renting in London are intrinsically codependent on each other.
Ems and Graduate Fasttrack have made it their mission to really help graduates’ with the whole process of what it means to actually live and work in London, with a focus on improving graduates’ well-being by relieving their stress.
Graduate Fasttrack starts you out by helping you, step by step in landing your dream graduate career. Then, Ems steps in by helping you with the living bit of things. She helps you find your dream rental, without all the hassle.
Besides the basics, like making sure your flat doesn’t break the bank and is a short commute for you. Ems finds the perfect place that fits your lifestyle. Like running? She will find you a flat close to parks runners swear by. Foodie? She knows all the neighbourhoods in London with the best restaurants and food shops!
We are determined to improve the experience for graduates’ starting out on their new journey, with their time and well-being at our forefront!
Phew! Now you can actually focus on the fun stuff… like hitting all those rooftop bars opening up again!
